news and more photos

27th October 2011                               Team 3 News

Dear Parents,

Wow what an exciting finish to the holidays with the All Black win! What a great historical sporting moment that our children (and us) will remember forever.  We hope that you all had a fantastic holiday time together. We certainly feel refreshed and ready to go for our last short but busy term.

This term is just short of 8 weeks and we have quite a lot to pack in.

Please remember hats every day, put sunblock on and wear summer uniform.

I’ve listed dates below to help you with planning ahead. There will be more reminders along the way and things I’ve missed I’m sure.

Camp - We all wish the year 4 students a wonderful camp at Blue Skies in Kaiapoi as they go off on camp today. We know you will have a wonderful adventure together! Thanks so much to all the willing parents who make camp possible by coming along and to Ann Turner, Abi Huston and Susie Murphy for their organisation.

Curriculum focuses for the term

Maths - Completing geometry unit, then onto a fractions unit and continuing on with number knowledge and strategy work. (as part of our number unit any quizzes and practice that you can give on the 4 operations +,-,x,- will be of huge assistance to strategy work in the classroom.)

Literacy – narrative writing – fairytales, adventure stories, working on structure of paragraphing, some doing author studies.

P.E – Athletics – run jump and throw. We will be having Rob (our bays cluster co-ordinator) come and do some explicit teaching of athletics skills during the term on Tuesdays.

Aquagym swimming lessons week 3 and 4 - Please remember togs, towel, goggles, swimming cap if needed and a plastic bag for wet gear every day in week 3 and 4. A separate notice has class times and instructions.

Topic – We are having a very low key unit this term after the big world cup topic and focussing more on our maths, reading and writing and completing end of year assessments. However we will be having beach education so will do a short health unit on being ‘surf smart and sun smart.’ We will be attending a beach education day on Monday 28th Nov which covers lots of important beach and water safety information. (a separate permission and information sheet will come home about this.

The key messages we will be delivering will be… I need to be sunsmart in summer (between Sep and April) - I need to protect myself from the sun’s UV radiation in summer especially between 11am and 4pm by wearing sunsmart clothing, staying in the shade and wearing 30+sunscreen. - always swim between the flags.  - always swim with an adult.

Team 3 end of year event

On Thursday 8th December Team 3 will be having our end of year event which will be a trip to the movies. We will walk to Hollywood Cinema in Sumner and watch Puss ‘n’ Boots and then walk to the park for a picnic together afterwards. Cost will be on your termly account.
